Gene Accession
A1Z199
Gene Alias
ABL1-BCR fusion
Background
The Ph chromosome (BCR-ABL fusion gene) is formed by fusion of the 3´ sequences from ABL1 (Abelson) gene at 9q34 to the 5´ portion of the BCR (breakpoint cluster region) gene sequences at 22q11. The product of this fusion BCR-ABL gene is a constitutively active protein tyrosine kinase, p210 BCR-ABL, that promotes cellular proliferation and suppresses apoptosis. BCR-ABL kinase activity is critical to the development of CML.
